DISTILLERY NOTES

This classic orange liqueur is the result of the distillation and infusion of 10 carefully selected botanicals. Notes of Seville & Naval orange accented with a rich vanilla finish and a lingering sweetness from natural cane sugar. This is the Curaçao you need – Perfect for your most elegant cocktail recipes”

BC SPIRITS NOTES

Another limited edition release from Long Table, this delightful Curacao. A blend of naval and curacao oranges, along with a handful of botanicals thrown in for good measure. On the nose, the naval and curacao seesaw in aroma, from sweet and bright to sour and tart with hints of the complex herbal notes subtle and underlying. The palate just doubles down on these notes, tittering between bright classic naval and the deep, bitter notes of the curacao.

Alcohol - 40% / 80 proof

Color - Delightful bright orange

Nose - Blend of dried curacao bitterness and bright navel orange pop

Taste - Gorgeous orange, balanced between sweet and bitter orange peel perfectly. Rich and complex with the botanicals coming in the back

Finish - Balanced orange sweetness, not cloying at all. Rich and luxurious.

Best Enjoyed - Classic cocktails that call for Triple Sec or Curacao

BC Spirits "Spirits of the Week" #19 - Mad Lab Sarsaparilla Schnapps

BC SPIRITS NOTES

Two things if you know me well enough is, that I love Scotty from Mad Lab Spirits and I adore sarsaparilla. But don't take these crazy schnapps as those sickly sweet root beer schnapps that you would have had as shots as a kid. These are complex and layered, sassafras, hints of burdock, gorgeous herbal complexity with just a kiss of sweetness. This is close to an amaro without the bitter notes, will work perfectly in a bourbon sour rift to give it some fall feelings.

Alcohol - 30% / 60 proof

Color - Root beer brown

Nose - Soft vanilla, dry sassafras, autumn spice

Taste - Complex herbal and spice notes, sassafras, burdock, nutmeg and clove with underlying vanilla softness

Finish - Dry sarsaparilla lingers with underlying spice notes

Best Enjoyed - In an Old Fashioned or Manhattan rift

3/4 oz (22.5mL) Long Table Curacao

BC Spirits "Spirits of the Week" #18 - Wayward Distillery Raspberry Gin Liqueur

DISTILLERY NOTES

But like the saying goes: when life gives you raspberries, you crush the hell out of them, add a touch of raw honey and blend them together into premium gin - obviously ;)

This bright and refreshing Raspberry Gin Liqueur will be your best friend all summer. No awkward conversations about vaccines or masks, just put it on ice, over bubbles, or substituted into any of your favourite gin cocktails and simply enjoy!

BC SPIRITS NOTES

Have absolutely loved the pivot that Wayward has done this year in the way of diversifying their production. Their Raspberry Gin Liqueur is no different, fresh peak season raspberries on the nose with hints of gin creeping in the background, subtle and subdued. On the palate, it explodes with freshly squeezed raspberry, bright acidity and a solid foundation of the Unruly Gin holding it forward; not sticky sweet, just bounds of fruity sweetness. Must try in a Clover Club.

Alcohol - 25% / 50 proof

Color - Deep raspberry red

Nose - Big bouquet of fresh raspberries with the subtle undertones of the gin botanicals

Taste - Balanced sweetness with bright raspberries and acid along with the bite of the gin; the gin is definitely understated

Finish - Balanced sweetness, not cloying, the finish is of fresh raspberries and bite of juniper

Best Enjoyed - Clover Club

BC Spirits "Spirits of the Week" #17 - Alchemist Distiller Artemisia

DISTILLERY NOTES

Produced from apples grown in the Okanagan Valley, and a blend of 14 herbs and flowers, Atemisia is a herbal liqueur with authentic alpine bouquet of flowers. Among the botanicals used, 5 herbs are from the mystical Artemisia family, from which the liqueur gets it’s name.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

To say I was excited about this would have been a huge understatament. We have a ton of amari in BC, but no herbal liqueurs similar to Chartreuse, Strega or Benedictine; until now, with the Alchemist Distillers Artemisia. A mild 50% alc/vol strength, huge herbal notes on the nose very akin to Chartreuse Vert, and it flows onto the palate with gorgeous fruitiness, balanced and complex herbal notes, menthol and herb garden notes of rubbed sage. Time to make BC Last Words.

Alcohol - 50% / 100 proof

Color - Vibrant orange

Nose - Rubbed sage, menthol and fragrant wormwood

Taste - Balanced sweetness, complex herbal notes, fragrant wormwood, aromatic apple notes with hints of sage, menthol and spring herb garden

Finish - Balanced sweetness, spiked herb notes, hints of hops, fragrant menthol

Best Enjoyed - BC Last Words all day!

BC Spirits "Spirits of the Week" #16 - Indigenous World Spirits Vodka

DISTILLERY NOTES

Perceptible sweetness from nose to palate of cacao, nuts, grape and peach. Lifted and creamy.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

I am loving what Indigenous World Spirits is doing, loved both their gin and their single malt. The gin is fruity and poppy and I now understand where a lot of that fruitiness comes from. Their vodka has a pleasant cereal note on the nose that then flows into gorgeous fruity grain on the palate. Nice vodka to try out on your macro drinking friends.

Alcohol - 40% / 80 proof

Color - Clear

Nose - Fresh rain, hints of creamy vanilla

Taste - That fresh rain minerality comes through on the palate along with hints of vanilla and dry cacao

Finish - Clean finish of minerality

Best Enjoyed - Great substitute for macro brands

BC Spirits "Spirits of the Week" #15 - Wayward Distillery Krupnik

DISTILLERY NOTES

This traditional version of our wildly popular Krupnik is fermented and distilled from 100% BC Winter Wheat. Everything you love and enjoy about our OG Krupnik.

Before you open this bottle, Wayward would like to take this opportunity to apologize. We are about to ruin your drinking life with this golden-hued, Polish gem of a honey spirit called Krupnik. Often compared to cinnamon whisky or spiced rum, Krupnik is a spirit in a category all its own. To save yourself from this addictive blend of toasted honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, raw vanilla and citrus peel it should NEVER be mixed with sparkling apple cider, ginger beer, chai tea, or hot water and lemon. And never you mind that favourite flask...

BC SPIRITS NOTES

I have always been a huge fan of the Wayward Distilling Krupnik, that caramelized honey, warming winter spice and pop of bright citrus is on point. Krupnik typically screams for winter with the nutmeg and cinnamon but the way that Wayward produces it, it creates a liqueur that can be utilized in tiki style drinks, in apple cider cocktails or just mixed Mule style with lime and ginger beer.

Alcohol - 40% / 80 proof

Color - Deep mahogany

Nose - Fresh honeycomb, rich Xmas spice and layers of warm winter notes

Taste - The fresh honey and honey comb hits you with a huge whack and then comes that warming spice of nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves and finally the bite of liquor that warms your soul

Finish - Not as sticky as I remember, sweet but not cloying; long honeycomb and spice notes

Best Enjoyed - In a flask on a snow hill

BC Spirits "Spirits of the Week" #14 - Indigenous World Spirits Whisky

DISTILLERY NOTES

Aged for 3 years in ex port and cognac casks gives sweet port wine aromas of sultanas, strawberries and baking spice, with hints of black pepper, vanilla and a whisp of smoke. Salted toffee, apricot and cereal appear on the palate, then transition into notes of smoked beef jerky with a long, lingering salt and pepper finish.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

While relatively new on the spirit scene, Indigenous Spirits laid down whisky in 2017 and really shocked me when it rolled out. Still a relatively unknown distillery and when they released their single malt, they didn't mess around either. Aged in ex cognac and port barrels, this is a very unique whisky release for BC. The dry baking spice from the cognac barrels is complimented by the sticky sweetness of the port, a complex mix of vanilla, stonefruit and butterscotch.

Alcohol - 40% / 80 proof

Color - Deep mahogany

Nose - Sticky sultanas, stewed red berries, hints of butterscotch and vanilla

Taste - Sweet grape notes, bitey oak spice and long vanilla notes with hints of dry butterscotch

Finish - The sweet port and cognac and balanced with the malty notes and then hints of the barrel vanilla spice

Best Enjoyed - Neat

BC Spirits "Spirits of the Week" #13 - Wayward Distilling Cortes Island Apple Brandy

DISTILLERY NOTES

It's like Calvados, only cask strength and made from heritage apples grown on Cortes Island! Harvested in 2018, this apple brandy was aged almost 3 years in a single whisky cask. This is not your grammy’s brandy. This is bold, spicy and resinous with apple sauce and custard and an overabundance of personality. In other words, just the way we like it!

BC SPIRITS NOTES

You know how much I love my fruit spirits, and the diversification of what Wayward Distillery is exciting. A cask strength Cortes Island Apple Brandy aged for 3 years sounds and is exciting. On the nose, fresh cut apple notes (obviously), a blend of sweet, tart and tannic notes with the hints of oak and spice coming from the barrel in the background; this all flows through on the palate with apple richness and balanced oak profile.

Alcohol - 62.63% / 125.26 proof

Color - Light straw gold

Nose - Apple leaf and bark on the nose with hints of fresh apple and oak

Taste - Ripe apple, those green leaf and bark notes are complex and then balanced out with the pop of fresh oak, it’s there but not overly in your face

Finish - Long apple heat for days, something that you should enjoy after dinner with friends

Best Enjoyed - Neat

BC Spirits "Spirits of the Week" #12 - Shelter Point Double Barrel

DISTILLERY NOTES

Our sixth Double Barreled whisky is a special collaboration with Vancouver Island’s renowned Coastal Black Winery. We hand selected 6 of our finest Single Malt whisky casks and finished them in French oak wine barrels, previously home to Coastal Black’s Blackberry Wine. Aged in our American oak for 6 years, and then finished for 99 days in flavourful French oak, Shelter Point Double Barreled Whisky is a sensational marriage of spirits.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

Shelter Point just released their 6th batch of their Double Barrel, aged in a mix of American Oak, second fill French Oak and finished in blackberry wine casks from Coastal Black. The mix of complex oak notes, deep stonefruit and hints of sweetness from the blackberry wine is gorgeous. The usual bottle strength of 46% is the money spot for this whisky to shine, enjoy this neat and let it open up over a half an hour.

Alcohol - 46% / 92 proof

Color - Light beet red with orange edges

Nose - Musty vanilla French oak and blackberry jam is distinct on the nose

Taste - That distinct Shelter Point grain note gives the whisky the backbone to explore musty vanilla oak, creme brulee, blackberry jam and hints of barn hay

Finish - Soft and supple, that musty vanilla and blackberry jam tartness linger

Best Enjoyed - Neat

BC Spirits "Spirits of the Week" #11 - Wayward Distillery Smoked Drunken Hive Rum

DISTILLERY NOTES

The classic Drunken Hive Honey Rum aged in exIslay barrels bottled at cask strength

BC SPIRITS NOTES

Super limited release from Wayward Distillery, sold out in a couple of minutes, their Drunken Hive finished in Islay Whisky Barrels. The smoke is that classic flinty, river rock fire flavor that compliments and contrasts the caramelized sweetness in the spirit. Rich and decadent, the barrel adds a huge amount of complexity to the honey rum, allowing it to give a breadth of flavors and giving is some great legs.

Alcohol - 56.7% / 113.4 proof

Color - Light honey gold

Nose - The light campfire smoke balances the richness of the honey on the nose and dries it out to crystallized honey

Taste - The palate is rich with the campfire flinty smoke and then the rich honey comb notes come through, the cask strength and the smoke give a unique dryness to the Drunken Hive.

Finish - Smoked honeycomb lingers for some time, flint in the final breath

Best Enjoyed - Neat

BC Spirits "Spirits of the Week" #10 - Okanagan Spirits El Padre

DISTILLERY NOTES

"El Padre", or "The Father" in English is a bourbon-style whisky that was first aged for four years in American toasted oak, and then double-wood aged in a Don Julio 42 finished cask.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

Another speciality release from Okanagan Spirits; this time it's their bourbon style whisky finished in Don Julio 1942. I'm not usually a massive fan of tequila finished whiskies, have done a lot in the past and they tend to fight for supremacy on the palate. This one however, balances the oaked vanilla tones of the 1942 with the ballsy corn notes of the whisky. Deliciously drinkable, complex and balanced.

Alcohol - 42% / 84 proof

Color - Iridescent Copper Orange

Nose - Bite of the BRBN notes straight off and then that deep tequila note hanging in the background

Taste - Balanced and complimentary, the depth and sweet stonefruit notes of the BRBN play perfect with the herbal, grassy notes of the tequila

Finish - Fruity, deep and complex, it’s balanced between the richness of the BRBN and the deep spice and herbal notes of the 1942

Best Enjoyed - Neat

BC Spirits "Spirits of the Week" #9 - Wayward Distillery Juneberry Amaro

DISTILLERY NOTES

A wonderful Island Expression. Wayward’s Amaro is lovingly crafted from green walnuts hand harvested from a single 37 year old tree on Denman Island, crushed juneberrys, locally grown rosemary and thyme from Whitaker Farm, and our very own upcycled gin botanicals. Juicy, fresh, herbaceous and crushable, this beautifully balanced Amaro is perfect for sipping on ice or in your favourite island cocktail.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

Wayward Distilling getting into the amaro game is exactly what we need right now. I want more amari in BC and glad that this is their take on the classic styling. Caramelised honey on the nose is the backdrop for the deep complex botanicals to start to show their bitterness. On the palate, it is a balanced earthy sweetness with very Pacific Northwest herbal bitterness, subtle and understated.

Alcohol - 32% / 64 proof

Color - Dark claret

Nose - Fruity berry with a sneaky nose of the underlying herbal and bitter notes

Taste - Stewed berries on the front then cascade into herbal tones of the forest and the PNW and finally warming bitterness cuts through the palate

Finish - The bitterness balances out the sweet, deep notes of the mix. Gorgeous long herbal finish

Best Enjoyed - In a cocktail

BC Spirits "Spirits of the Week" #8 - Okanagan Spirits Packinghouse Amber

DISTILLERY NOTES

Our innovative line of beer-inspired whisky is created from our talented team of distillers finishing off our whisky wash into their favourite beer expressions (IPA, Pale-Ale,Porter, etc.) which is then fermented, distilled, and aged in white oak casks to create a whole new frontier of Whisky. Past releases include: BC Hopped, IPA, Woodfire, Peppered Pete and Pale Ale Whiskies.

This latest expression highlights the magic of a beautifully brewed Amber Ale, distilled to whisky, and then double-wood aged in Calvados casks… The result is applesolutely delicious!

BC SPIRITS NOTES

The latest from Okanagan Spirits brewer series doesn't disappoint, a distillation of Amber Ale and then finished in their Canados Apple Brandy casks gives it depth and approachable complexity and dry, fruity apple notes. High apple notes on the nose with the whisky poking through then flowing onto the palate with distinct hop notes and subtle richness balancing with the apple pop.

Alcohol - 40% / 80 proof

Color - Deep copper orange

Nose - Pop of apple on the nose, oaky, tannic and forward with hints of spice

Taste - The Amber is deep, punchy spice with a distinct hopped tone flows through to warm apple notes, oaky and tannic that balances the bold sweetness of the whisky

Finish - Long and deep finish with rich amber ale notes along with that distinct apple

BC Spirits "Spirits of the Week" #7 - Wayward Distilling Rose Petals' Bees Knees

BC SPIRITS NOTES

Something brand new from Wayward Distilling and boy is it delicious. Based on the Wayward Gin and in essense a bottled version of the classic Bee Knee's, it combines local rose petals, honey and crushed lemons to create a drink that is floral, aromatic and distinct. The sweet floral notes of the rose balance with the deep honeycomb tones all being complimented by the crushed lemon flavor. Pour on the rocks and enjoy!

Color - Light bluff watermelon pink

Nose - Rose petal’s, lemon rind and hints of honeycomb

Cocktail of the Week #23 - Amaretto Sour BC Style

I love Jeffrey Morgenthaler's Amaretto Sour recipe but I wanted to take it and tweak it. I used the Sons of Vancouver Sherry Barrel Aged Amaretto and the Odd Society Maple Whisky, decadence on decadence; paired perfectly together.

AMARETTO SOUR (BC STYLE)

1 1/2 oz (45mL) Sons of Vancouver Sherry Finished Amaretto

1/2 oz (15mL) Odd Society Maple Whisky

1/2 oz (15mL) simple syrup

3/4 oz (22.5mL) lemon juice

1 egg white

Glass - Small Old Fashioned

Method - Dry shake all ingredients and then wet shake with ice, double strain

Garnish - picked cherry
