Shelter Point Smoke Point #1

Shelter+Point+Distillery.jpg

DISTILLERY NOTES

Introducing Shelter Point’s first ever peat influenced whisky. This single grain smoky delight has been aged in American oak ex-bourbon casks for 5 years and finished in casks previously used by a famous Islay distillery for 8 months.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

I don’t partake in smoky whiskies much but this one is something special. The Shelter Point Smoke Point is a delicious single malt combining their classic single malt with an Islay whisky finish. Amazing how much flavor comes from finishing, beautiful campfire smoke and flinty stone; reminds me of being on the river and having a late night fire.

Alcohol - 55% / 110 proof

Color - Deep gold to light wheat on the edges

Nose - Light vanilla and gentle barley notes with a hint of the smoke to come

Taste - The Islay smoke hits you straight away, bold and mouth feeling but the Shelter Point whisky holds up and comes through and balances the smoke.

Finish - Complex smoke tones but as that subsides, classic Shelter Point

Best Enjoyed - Neat

Shelter Point Montfort 151

DISTILLERY NOTES

Montfort 151 is a truly unique field-to flask whisky. The name itself is the very lot in which the single-grain barley was grown, as well the coordinates to the exact field are included on every bottle. The Montfort series has literal grass root beginnings, each field that we farm has a distinctive district lot number, as well as site specific soil classification, and a proximity to the ocean and forested land. These collective characteristics grow barley in distinctive and unique ways resulting in unique flavor profiles from these micro regions on our farm. Montfort 151 is distinctively different than the Montfort DL 141, and Montfort 151 is a proud product of our distillery home.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

Brand new expression from Shelter Point, another terroir driven single malt made with grain from their property. The 151 has big orange and stone fruit on the nose flowing through to that rich orange peel, almost rye like spice and complex oak vanilla profile. Always love what the team is doing up there.

Alcohol - 46% / 92 proof

Color - Light copper with golden edges

Nose - Orange peel, classic highland whisky notes, stonefruits and hints of oaky vanilla chocolate

Taste - That orange peel comes through, with spicy grain notes, complex stonefruit and balanced oaky vanilla

Finish - Long and lingering with soft vanilla, spicy grain and hints of oak.

Best Enjoyed - neat

BC Spirits "Spirit a Day" #138 - Wayward Distillery Depth Charge

DISTILLERY NOTES

Depth Charge starts life as 100% pure BC Honey. We gently ferment our honey into mead and distill that mead into vodka using custom designed stills to separate out the harsh heads and the oily tails, ensuring that only the softest and sweetest hearts are ever collected.

Welcome to the delightful collaboration between a small local coffee roastery and Wayward’s award winning Unruly Vodka. We cold brew a custom blend of Royston Roasting Co’s organic fairtrade espresso and raw organic cacao nibs with our Unruly Vodka to achieve dark and dry perfection.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

Had a family trip to Vancouver today so I tried to be witty and cool and taste a coffee liqueur because I closed the bar down last night. Instead, it didn’t pan out and I am now on my back deck tasting the delicious Wayward Distillery Depth Charge, their delicious complex coffee liqueur that is perfectly roasted espresso with bitter cocoa nibs and sweet honeycomb.

BC Spirits "Spirit a Day" #135 - Odd Society Maple Whisky

DISTILLERY NOTES

Maple Whisky draws many of its unique flavours from the maple tree. Odd Society smokes its malted barley with maple wood and then ages the distilled spirit for a minimum of three years in oak casks that were previously used to age maple syrup.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

The now sold out Odd Society Maple whisky is one of my favorite expressions from Odd Society. The single malt is an amazing back bone for the addition of maple smoke and maple syrup barrel aging. Rich, complex with hints of smoke, subtle maple and long lingering finish.

Alcohol - 46% / 92 proof

Color - Light maple syrup brick

Nose - Immediate maple with hints of new wood

Taste - A perfect balancing act of heavy barley, maple sweetness, subtle but complex smoke and a finish of oak

Finish - The alcohol content cuts the sweetness and leave maple smoke and sweetness with a kiss of oak

Best Enjoyed - Neat

BC Spirits "Spirit a Day" #133 - Mainland Wild Rose Liqueur

DISTILLERY NOTES
Foraged, Milled, Mashed, and Distilled in South Surrey, BC

Made with local wildrose petals, and organic corn and malted barley from Armstrong, BC. Non-chill filtered. What happens when you cross corn whisky with wild rose petals? If you guessed floral, chocolate sweetness you would be correct. This liqueur has converted more self-professed “non-whisky drinkers” than we have time to shake a stick at.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

I am beyond excited for the future of Mainland Whisky and tasting some aged corn whiskies. This unaged corn whisky infused with sugar crusted rose petals is a delicious blend of bold and sweet corn whisky with the floral and aromatic rose petals.

Alcohol - 25% / 50 proof

Color - Light pink

Nose - Corn whisky with hints of chocolate

Taste - Deep and complex rose with hints of chocolate and corn whisky, a little sprinkling of candied white sugar

Finish - Balanced sweetness with gorgeous floral and corn flavors

Best Enjoyed - Try this as a base with the Peeled and some lemon juice, hint of sugar
