BC SPIRITS NOTES

Another great find for this week of "Soole What Were you Thinking?", the Long Table Distillery Barrel Aged Gin is one of the OG aged gins in BC. BC Spirits "Spirits a Day" #317 - One Foot Crow Vodka

DISTILLERY NOTES

An easy drinking Vodka smooth and warm. Made from wheat with a kiss of rye. Distilled on the grain to maintain a hint of it’s origins.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

This was a great one to rediscover, the One Foot Crow Craft Distillery Vodka is a blend of high wheat with a "kiss" of rye and then distilled on the grains which is quite unique and allowing them to create a very flavorful and grain forward, almost husky complexity. Sweet wheat with hints of rye spice, a pleasant rediscovery that fits for a lot of people's palate when it comes to craft vodka.

Alcohol - 40% / 80 proof

Color - Clear

Nose - Funky grain notes, soft caramel

Taste - Grain forward, definitely get the heavy wheat mashbill. Funky grain, hints of caramel

Finish - A balance of sweet grain with hints of heavy grain. Very flavorful finish

DISTILLERY NOTES

An all natural organic orange liqueur with miles of orange flavour and a finish of tart sumac berries, wild foraged in Naramata, BC.

Another "What Were you Thinking Soole" episode of searching through my collection for hidden gems that haven't been on the show yet. The Legend Distilling Manitou is a gorgeous orange and sumac liqueur from the Naramata Bench. Rich, almost curacao style orange on the nose with hints of botanical sumac underneath. BC Spirits "Spirits a Day" #315 - Odd Society Blender's Release Single Malt

DISTILLERY NOTES

“Blender’s Release” single malt whisky was inspired by a visit from our friend Dhavall Gandhi.

Two months ago, we hosted a whisky blending workshop that you mentioned in your video you were unfortunately unable to attend. Eleven fellow distillers from across the province/country gathered to hear Dhavall Gandhi, former blender at The Macallan, and current Director of Whisky with The Lakes Distillery talk blending. It was a remarkable day of camaraderie, education and inspiration.

Armed with Dhavall’s insights, Gordon, Joel and Fraser went back to the warehouse and blended a new release made from a number of different single malt casks. Blender’s Release is a nod to Dhavall, his visit, and his incredibly thoughtful approach to whisky-making.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

At the end of this "What the hell were you thinking Soole" of finding new and unique things in my collection that haven't been on the show is this one. I had to search a couple of times because I couldn't have believed that I had missed it. But the Odd Society Blender's Release is something special, the classic Highland/Speyside stylings of Odd Society blended with some deep chocolates, butterscotch and spiced oak notes. This is more than their usual and I love it.

Alcohol - 46% / 92 proof

Color - Medium copper to gold

Nose - Complex malt and oak on the nose,

Taste - Rich and complex oak, not over extracted; stonefruit, Christmas spice dried orange peel

Finish - Cereal grains and the kiss of well chosen oak, a definite definer for Odd Society’s Single malt program

Best Enjoyed - Neat

DISTILLERY NOTES

Adam’s Apple Brandy is handcrafted from 100% Estate Grown Spartan Apples. This dreamy-smooth Apple Brandy, has flavours and smells of caramel, apple and toasted oak.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

A relatively new company, Forbidden Spirits has entered the fruit spirit realm, first with their vodkas along with the Eve's Gin tasted a while ago and now this shockingly great apple brandy. The apples are tannic, sour balanced with the sweet flesh and just a kiss of vanilla spiced oak. Really balanced and tasty apple brandy and you know how much I love those.

BC Spirits "Spirits a Day" #313 - Shelter Point Artisanal Single Malt

DISTILLERY NOTES

Paradise isn’t necessarily a geographical requirement for making great whisky, but we managed to find it at Shelter Point. It’s here that we hand craft our 100% Single Malt Whisky, distilled batch-by-batch in traditional copper pot stills from two-row barley, and aged in American oak barrels in our oceanfront warehouse. When it comes to artisanal whisky, every element matters—and in our unique, temperate rainforest climate, even the sunsets and sea air become integral.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

Shelter Point's classic staple, the Artisanal Single Malt is a beautiful and bright example of what the distillery does very well. A fantastic BC example of a highland / speyside style made here on the island, citrus, aromatic grain notes with hints of pear, nutmeg and spicy vanillas. The brightness coats the palate and then a deep, bassy notes of toffee and butterscotch and rich oak. Must have for the enthusiast.

Little burn on the front of the palate, warms the throat as it goes down for a beautiful experience.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

Another episode of "How the hell did I miss this?", the Mad Lab Spirits Vodka is a great base for so many of their spirits. Their vodka has a great slight sweetness to it which lends itself to dry vanilla and cocoa on the nose and then leads into the a structured, complex palate with those same vanilla and cocoa on the palate. Long and fragrant finish.

BC Spirits "Spirits a Day" #306 - Arbutus Distillery Limoncello

DISTILLERY NOTES

A take on the classic Italian lemon liqueur. Premium spirit brewed, fermented, and distilled from BC grown grain, rested on fresh lemon peels, pressed juice and sweetened into a liqueur.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

Always blown away when I find stuff in my collection that hasn't be on the show yet and especially when Arbutus Distillery has been a focus lately. Their Limoncello like many of their liqueurs are just amazing, their limoncello is a myriad of citrus notes, bright lemon high notes with sweet candied peel and everything in between. For the limoncello lovers, this is a must have

Alcohol - 28% / 56 proof

Color - Clear, translucent lemon yellow

Nose - Candied lemon peels with hints of acidic lemon flesh

Taste - A plethora of lemon on lemon, fresh and candied peel, hints of slightly bitter pith and sweetened lemonade

Finish - Long and fresh lemon

Best Enjoyed - Chilled and neat
